Vom Fass (From the Cask)
Robb and I were told about Vom Fass a few weeks ago. Jeremiah and Kim could hardly contain their excitement. So, after buying Robb a new pair of running shoes for our 10K race this upcoming weekend, we decided to check it out.
We were greeted by a wonderfully outgoing salesperson who gave us a rundown about the company. They are a German company with about 100 locations world wide. There is only one store in the United States; right here in Madison, Wisconsin. The name, Vom Fass, roughly translates as “from the cask.” In turn, everything they sell (oils, wines, sprits, vinegars) are all items that are matured in casks. Also, they give you a little plastic spoon so that you can sample everything in the store. On top of that, everything is for sale in 100 mL quantities (basically, bulk) so you pick out any glass bottle (ranging from 100 mL to 1000 mL, or so) and select your desired liquid. They encourage us to come back with the same bottle and get it refilled. You are also able to bring in your own bottle. Talk about green-packaging.
Robb and I tried quite a few vinegars and oils including a beer vinegar, a mango vinegar, grape seed oil, and a variety of olive oils ranging from very light to very intense. We settled on this nice Raspberry Balsamic. I am due to bake a loaf of bread so we can have a nice dipping party. Care to join us?
